This topping freezes into a crispy shell to top your favorite ice cream!
It’s part two of our Ice Cream Week! Now that you have an incredible Peanut Butter Ice Cream recipe, it’s time to make something delectable to add on top!! If you’ve never tried Magic Shell topping, it is a chocolate syrup that hardens when poured over ice cream. The result is a fun, crispy shell! I don’t know why it is SO much more fun that simple fudge topping – but it is!! Trust me!
This recipe couldn’t be simpler. You just need two ingredients: chocolate chips and coconut oil. I used semi-sweet chocolate chips, but any kind will work great! The coconut oil is added to help the topping freeze when you pour it over the ice cream. Drizzle it (or dump the entire cup) over your ice cream and watch as it freezes before your eyes! It’ll take around 15-30 seconds, but it’ll get there! Once it’s ready, dig in!
You can use this recipe on any ice cream, but of course my favorite combination is peanut butter ice cream with this on top! It’s the perfect pairing.
Don’t forget to check back on Friday for our final Ice Cream Week recipe: how to make ice cream without an ice cream maker!
Magic Shell Chocolate Topping
Time: 5 minutes
Yields: 1/2 cup topping
1/2 cup chocolate chips (milk, semi-sweet, or dark)
2 Tablespoons coconut oil
- Fill a small bowl with the chocolate chips and coconut oil. Melt in the microwave very carefully. Microwave on high for 10-15 seconds at a time, stirring well between each cycle.
- Allow to cool slightly before using. Store covered up to a month at room temperature. It may solidify depending on the temperature of your kitchen. No worries – just warm it back up in the microwave for a few seconds before enjoying it on your ice cream!
